The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who found the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family go about their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
