The Latest Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
