Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for questions to be asked about his position following a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from above,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell like this with performances like these.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
