Revitalized Medvedev Secures First Trophy in 882 Days
Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.
The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a torrid season, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-term coach Cervara.
Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's first championship since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court since spring of that year.
The win also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 distinct tournaments.
"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children at once, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated ranked player the champion.
"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.
Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his ability to play at the elite level was over.
Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved service.
He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.
Both players traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden tour title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.
He saved four early opportunities in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.
Suitably, he clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
