Paceman Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Worries.

'Major setback' for the touring side as Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson added to England's injury problems upon exiting the field during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson pulled up with his hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over on Saturday.

The touring camp reported the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and was to take time away from the action to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The series decider in this Ashes battle in Sydney gets underway at the end of the week.

The English side has already lost strike bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman with an abdominal strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was called up as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, taking just three wickets.

He was left out of the third Test, before being recalled for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.

The county bowler performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, before adding 28 while batting being one of only three English batsmen to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell in Australia's second innings, he came back for the second day's play and removed Scott Boland Scott Boland caught behind.

Yet, on the final ball of that over, he sent down a change of pace to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed his left hamstring.

Atkinson returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test having missed of the third.
