Cameron Norrie secured the most notable win of his career by rebounding from a early deficit to defeat top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the early stage of the Paris Masters.

Although he had previously beaten Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this victory marks Norrie's first ever victory over a current world No 1.

"Huge. So big for me," stated Norrie, who is now the latest British man in the record books to overcome a global number one. "Bouncing back from a physical setback last year, I was defeated in the opening stage of qualifying rounds here. I just tried to enjoy my game in the second half of the year. To secure a victory like this, it's the greatest victory of my professional life, my initial victory over the world No 1 and likely the most confident competitor in the sport right now."

Norrie, ranked No 31, also ended Alcaraz's supreme streak of nine finals in a row and 17 successive elite tournament victories, which was the best series of results in the Spaniard's developing professional path.

Alcaraz looked to be moving confidently towards victory at the start as he sailed past the opening set. However, Norrie slowly worked himself into contention by executing with sharper placement and pulling the Spaniard into lengthy, demanding exchanges. His unceasing shot tolerance and consistency steadily took its toll.
