New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that reassures me, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities released video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries were reported.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday near the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate this season, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in March and was expected to be an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while working his way back.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He later played for Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in March.
