Followers Call for Detainment of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of Ariana Grande are calling for that a individual who breached a barrier and touched the actress during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and lunging at Grande while the performers walked down a event pathway accompanied by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "free after being arrested", though official papers showed that he was due to be present on the following morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram profile includes recordings of him interrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney concert in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last year.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," stated an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user wrote.
Followers Express Concern Over the Star's Past Trauma
Many followers blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed suffering from PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote one more response on Instagram.
Several fans also criticised guards at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while others called for online networks to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In footage circulating online, Grande looked shocked when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of fans had assembled in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had waited for as long as eight hours before it started.
The film, to be released on November 21, is the second of a dual adaptation of the well-known stage show Wicked, which centers on the unlikely friendship between two very different sorceresses.
The show itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of the previous year in the UK, and received 10 Oscar nominations, winning a pair for best costume and set decoration.
