Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting Against the Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.
Canada's MLB team earned a spot in their first World Series after the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the ALCS.
Trailing by two runs, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh, leading the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the forthcoming championship.
"It's incredible for everyone here, our city, our country," commented Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now hit 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third all-time after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another player in the world that I'd prefer in that moment except for him with his post-season brilliance," remarked Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a Fall Classic.
Wilson said "certainly that it's painful" following his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.
Toronto won the championship on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on this Friday.
