Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer responsible for many legendary styles associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."

This news arrives shortly after he debuted his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as various looks for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world says farewell to a genuine innovator whose impact on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
