Alina Habba leaves her post in the wake of appeals court rules against her service.

The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has left her position as the US Attorney for New Jersey. This follows a legal ruling that challenged her eligibility to occupy the role.

Official Departure

The head of the Justice Department, the Attorney General, accepted Habba's resignation on the start of the week. Bondi stated that the appeals court finding made it unworkable for her to perform her duties.

"Do not interpret adherence to the ruling as defeat," Habba stated. "The effort will now extend throughout the country."

Legal Background

The departure follows closely on a US appeals court determined that she had been acting without proper authority as the federal prosecutor. This judgment is likely to affect numerous legal proceedings in the state.

The court said that a interim role that skirted confirmation by the US Senate breached the statute on vacant positions.

Ongoing Legal Battle

Bondi said that Habba will stay on at the DOJ as a high-level advisor. Habba plans to seek further review of the disqualification, aiming for a reversal.

In a statement, Bondi argued that the judiciary "should not be able to countermand the President's choice of prosecutors responsible for executing the fundamental role of the presidency of prosecuting crime."

Performance in Office

Bondi commended the prosecutor's work and pointed out that during her run, the Newark saw a significant drop in offenses. Additionally that the Camden experienced its first summer in 50 years without a homicide.

Legal Career

Habba, 41, was initially recruited to the former president's legal defense in recent years. She later acted for her client in his business records case in 2024, when he was guilty verdict on dozens of charges of falsifying business records.

Earlier, Habba took on the top New Jersey post, Donald Trump had stated he was naming her as his White House advisor during his second administration, labeling Habba as "unwavering in her loyalty" and a relentless legal advocate.
